Window Treatments in Hollywood FL
Learn more about Window Treatments in Hollywood FL. Shutters can be a particularly attractive architectural feature within a room. Louvered shutters are a graceful approach to filter or block most of the light inside a room. Normally, shutters are permanently attached to the windows or door frames in a room; however, they are able to open fully, either by swinging open on a hinge or by sliding to one side (“stacking”).
Increase Privacy With Shutters
As an effective means of insulating a room, Shutters can provide both privacy and reduce noise. When added to the right room, shutters become an integral and important asset. Shutters not only look stylish and are aesthetically pleasing, but they can also be matched to any color scheme or décor. They maintain their architectural look when closed or opened. When open fully, Shutters allow the maximum amount of light; while closed they offer numerous light filtering options.
History on Shutters
Invented centuries ago, Shutters were the first treatments developed to cover our windows. During the Middle-Ages, windows were small but were kept secure through the night with very simple frames made out of wood. In wealthier homes or castles these shutters were sometimes ornately decorated.
Around the end of the seventeenth century new advents in glass manufacturing allowed for larger sash windows, and as a result of the novel style new window fashions became popular, most notably the folding shutter. Folding shutters fit very nicely into the recess of the window’s opening. In the homes of the wealthy, folding shutters were often decorated with panels. Panels were molded or carved to enhance the décor within a room. Some of these panels were ornately painted, adding to the perception of wealth of the patron.
Beginning in the eighteenth century, painted shutters became prevalent in even the simplest homes in North America and Europe. As a result, curtains waned in popularity. The shutters provided security from outside threats and allowed the house to remain cooler from the heat of the sun in the summer. During the cold winter months, shutters also insulated drafty window openings.
In the Middle East, shutters and window panels were ornately decorated and carved. They permitted the women inside the homes to maintain privacy while allowing them to observe the outside environment. Additionally, these treatments kept the homes cooler and secluded.
